We give you this notice in order to comply with our legal obligation and to inform you about which cookies are used when using our online offers and how we protect your privacy.

In this cookie policy we refer to all technologies, including cookies, web beacons, pixels, as well as script trackers and other programmatic client-side technologies with which user information can be recorded, explain their purpose, the scope of their use, and provide Show you ways in which you can manage and control the behavior of these technologies. In the broadest sense, cookies also include content or service offers from third-party providers, such as the integration of videos, maps or the use of certain fonts or the provision of administrative or other functions that are integrated into our online offers. For these third-party providers, it is always possible to draw conclusions about the respective user, since they need their IP address in order to provide them with their offers. For the sake of consistency, all of these methods are referred to collectively as “cookies” in the following, unless a differentiation is expressly made between individual methods.

This cookie policy relates to our online offers under the domain “westfalenhallen.de” and associated subdomains, as well as to other online offers from the Westfalenhallen Unternehmensgruppe GmbH, insofar as they refer to this cookie policy. This cookie policy can be called up, saved and printed out at any time within our online offers. By using our online offers, you agree that we can use cookies in accordance with this cookie policy. You can find more information about the use of your personal data in our Data protection.

  1. What are cookies?

1.1. Cookies and other technologies are used to enable certain functions within online offers, e.g. the recognition of a user, to save a user’s default settings, to clearly assign temporary process or transaction-related data to a user, to save additional security information when a user logs in to his user account , or to collect information about the use of an online offer and to improve its use. These technologies are also used by almost all online offers to recognize whether the respective online offer has already been accessed with the same device and the same browser in order to adapt the displayed content and, in some cases, vary it.

1.2. Cookies and other technologies can be used by the Westfalenhallen, but also by other third-party providers. This applies to content such as videos, online-based applications or analytical tools that help us to improve our online offers, as well as content that is activated depending on the user, such as clicks on “Share” buttons, with which the content of our online offers in social media such as Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter can be shared. This cookie policy applies equally to third-party cookies. Whether a cookie comes from a first-party provider or a third-party provider depends on the domain placing the cookie. First-party cookies are cookies that are placed by the online offers that the user visits. Third-party cookies are cookies that are placed by a different domain than the domain of the online offers that the user is visiting. Third-party providers place their cookies in the online offers of the first-party provider, provided they provide technologies that the first-party provider uses within the online offers or makes available to its users. The Westfalenhallen have order processing contracts or comparable agreements in accordance with Art. 28 Para. 3 GDPR with these third-party providers.

1.3. Cookies can only be read from the online offer from which the cookie originates. Cookies do not normally collect any personal data that is stored on your device. Cookies are only the key with which a connection to personal data can be established, provided that these have been collected at all. Cookies can be classic text-based cookies, web beacons, pixels or scripts.

  • Persistent cookies are stored for a period specified in the cookie on the device with which our online offers are used. These cookies are created when you visit our online offer for the first time, provided that your browser settings do not prevent this, and are reactivated on each subsequent visit, provided that this visit is made with an end device that already has a cookie.
  • Session cookies enable the operators of online offers to record the actions of a user during a browser session and to relate them to one another. A browser session begins when the browser is opened and ends when the browser is closed. Session cookies are deleted as soon as the browser is closed.
  • Web beacons and pixels are files that are integrated into an online offer and that are requested by the browser of the accessing user. They enable a log file recording and a log file analysis, which can be used for statistical evaluations. Information such as the IP address, the browser used or the operating system of the accessing system can be transmitted.
  • Script trackers and other client-side programmatic technologies are small JavaScript-based programs, or also programmatic content based on other technologies, which can provide functions that enable a browser to be recognized. You do not have to store any data on the accessing device. These technologies are only used if they are supported and activated by the browser of the accessing user.

1.4. Since many providers use more than one of the technologies mentioned above, these “cookies” are summarized below according to their purpose and the assigned source domain.

  1. Which cookies do we use?

2.1. Cookies are usually divided into five categories depending on their function, the technology used and their purpose: necessary cookies, analytical cookies, functional cookies, targeting cookies and flash cookies. Please refer to the following list for the different types of cookies that we can use within our online offers.

2.2. Necessary cookies: Necessary cookies enable navigation within our online offers and the provision of essential functions that would not work without the use of cookies, or that we would not be able to offer in their current form without usage restrictions. This also includes the provision of specially secured areas that can receive personal user data or enable payment activities. To protect our users’ data, these areas are only made available after successful user authentication. With the help of necessary cookies – as one of several methods used at the same time – it is also ensured that the user requesting sensitive information has previously successfully authenticated in order to prevent misuse of the information otherwise stored by us. In addition, settings such as language, location and information that optimizes the display such as screen resolution or buffer size can be stored. Necessary cookies are not used for advertising purposes and are also not used to collect behavior-based information about the users of our online offers. To use our online offers, it is necessary that you accept the necessary cookies. If you do not accept necessary cookies, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to use our online offers in full and that security can be guaranteed during your visit.

2.3. Functional cookies: We use functional cookies to save user decisions that influence the behavior of our online offers. With the help of the functional cookies we can offer personalized functions, such as content tailored to individual user needs. For example, we can reactivate the search filters you last used or check whether we have already drawn your attention to offers. Additional information may be stored on our systems and linked to functional cookies. These functions help us to adapt our online offers to your individual needs and to improve your user experience. For the optimal use of our online offers, it is therefore necessary that you accept this type of cookie. If you do not accept functional cookies, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to use our online offers in full. Functional cookies can also be managed by third parties. Information on the protection of personal data for these cookies can be found on the websites of these third parties, which are named below.

2.4. Analytical cookies: Analytical cookies are used to collect information about the use of online offers. This type of cookie helps us to further improve our offers, gives us information about the behavior of our users and helps us to identify and eliminate difficulties or errors in the use of our online offers. We can also use it to evaluate the efficiency of our advertising measures and improve the quality of the advertising that is displayed to our users. These cookies are not linked to information with which individual users can be identified. Analytical cookies can also be managed by third parties. Information on the protection of personal data for these cookies can be found on the websites of the third parties, which are named below.

2.5. Targeting cookies: We or service providers commissioned by us can use targeting cookies that serve to show you product information that is more relevant to you and that is based on your interests. They also help us to improve the efficiency of our advertising campaigns. With the help of targeting cookies, we can, for example, limit the number of advertisements that you see or recognize when you have responded to our advertisements. These cookies can be used to recognize individual users and to record which information within our online offers has been particularly relevant for you. This information can be passed on by us to advertisers commissioned by us and can be linked by them with information from other sources of personal data. This also includes data that has been recorded about you when you use other online offers. With these third parties, you can also control your settings and your personal preferences with regard to the collection of personal data by third parties. This means that you will no longer receive advertising that has been tailored to your needs based on the information collected about you. Please note that you have to adjust your settings accordingly on every device and browser with which you use our offer. Even if such cookies are not used, you may be shown advertisements from us. This advertising is displayed to users in certain target group-specific areas of the Internet and is comparable to the broadcasting of television advertising: If you watch a travel magazine, for example, you will be shown more frequent commercials related to travel topics during the commercial breaks. If targeting cookies are managed by third parties, you can find the information on the protection of personal data for these cookies on the websites of these third parties, which are mentioned below.

2.6. Flash cookies: Sometimes so-called flash cookies are used to embed the Adobe Flash plug-in. These can store user settings and information about released local resources on the accessing terminal for the respective content played. Flash cookies may not be managed in the browser, but via other interfaces, but this depends on the device used. Visit the Adobe website for more information on how to manage, disable or delete Flash cookies. Please note that after deactivating Flash cookies you may no longer be able to use certain functions of our online offers. You can block Flash cookies in the settings for Adobe Flash Player and partly also directly in your browser, depending on whether the browser software you use to use our website provides this function. More information can be found here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/security.html

  1. Third-party cookies (or technologies)

4.1. The following sections provide an overview of all third-party cookies used within our online offers, their origin and purpose. The integration of technologies from third-party providers always requires that they receive the IP address of the user, since the functions cannot be provided without the IP address of the user. The IP address is required to provide these functions. In addition, these third-party providers can also receive further technical information, such as the browser used, the operating system and technical device information, the date and the duration of the visit. We strive to only use content whose respective providers only use the IP address to deliver the content. These third-party providers can also store text cookies on the user’s device if the device allows this. These third-party providers can also link user information with information from other sources.

4.2. Further information about the use of personal data that is collected and processed by these third-party providers within our online offers can be found in the respective data protection notices of the respective third-party providers, which are linked below. You must carry out this so-called opt-out for all systems and devices that you use, for example in another browser or on your mobile device.

  1. Google Re / Marketing Services

5.1. We use Google Re / Marketing Services to analyze and optimize our online offers. The Google Marketing Services allow us to display advertisements in a more targeted manner so that they potentially correspond to the interests of the users. If a user visits other websites on which advertisements are directed by means of the Google Re / Marketing Services, the user can be shown advertisements tailored to him. For these purposes, when you visit our websites on which Google Re / Marketing Services are active, a Google code is executed, invisible graphics are integrated into the website, or comparable technologies are used. With their help, it is determined which websites the user has visited, which content he is interested in and which offers he has clicked on. Furthermore, metadata such as technical information on the browser and operating system as well as the IP address of the user are recorded, referring websites, visiting time and other information on the use of the respective online offer. This information about the user can also be linked by Google with information from other sources. The user data is processed by Google within pseudonymized user profiles, which Google does not assign to a specific person but to a device or cookie holder. Real names or email addresses are not recorded or stored unless a user has expressly allowed Google to process this data. The information that is collected about the users by means of the Google re / marketing services is transmitted to Google and stored in the USA. Google is certified under the Privacy Shield Agreement and guarantees to comply with the regulations of European data protection law ( https://www.privacyshield.gov/participant?id=a2zt000000001L5AAI&status=Actives ). If you would like to object to interest-based advertising by Google Marketing Services, you can use the settings and opt-out options provided by Google: https://adssettings.google.com/authenticated .

  1. Functional services from Google

6.1. We use functional services from Google in order to be able to offer the respective functions – such as maps or special programming frameworks – within our online offers. These functions are very complex, which is why we have to rely on a third-party provider to provide these functions economically and technologically. For these purposes, when you visit our websites on which the functional services of Google are active, programmatic technologies (“scripts”) are executed by Google, which serve to determine the appropriate technical parameters of the browser environment of the accessing user and the respective content and functions adapted to the user’s browser environment. According to the definition mentioned at the beginning, these scripts are also cookies (“script trackers”). Among other things, metadata such as technical information about the browser and operating system as well as the user’s IP address, the online offer in which the function is integrated, the visit time and other information on the use of the respective online offer are determined and passed on to Google. The user data that is collected as part of the provision of functional services is processed by Google within pseudonymized user profiles that are not assigned to a specific person by Google, but to a device or cookie holder. Google guarantees that the information will not be used for other purposes. Real names or email addresses are not recorded or stored unless a user has expressly allowed Google to process this data.

Google APIs cookie name

Managed by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland

Cookie name Google Universal Analytics

Managed by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland
Purpose We use Google Universal Analytics within our online offers. Google Universal Analytics cookies are used to collect visitor sessions and behavioral data for analysis reports. This enables us to receive information about the use of our offers on different devices (“cross device”) and use the results obtained to improve the user-friendliness of our offers. For this purpose, pseudonymized user profiles are used that do not receive any personal data such as names or e-mail addresses, and these are also not transmitted to Google. Google uses this information on our behalf to evaluate the use of our online offers, to create reports on the activities within our online offers and to provide us with other services related to the use of our online offers. Pseudonymous user profiles can be created from the processed data. We use Google Universal Analytics with activated IP anonymization. This means that the IP address of the user is shortened by Google within member states of the European Union or in other contracting states of the Agreement on the European Economic Area. The full IP address is only transmitted to a Google server in the USA and shortened there in exceptional cases. The IP address transmitted by the user’s browser will not be merged with other Google data.

Cookie name YouTube

Managed by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland
Purpose We have integrated components from YouTube within our online offerings. YouTube allows video clips to be posted free of charge and viewed, rated and commented on free of charge. By calling up one of the individual pages of our online offer on which content from YouTube has been integrated, a connection to YouTube is established in order to download the elements required to display the corresponding video. YouTube or the operating company Google receives information about which subpage of our online offers has been accessed by the respective user. In addition, further information, such as the IP address, the browser used, the operating system and technical device information, the date and the duration of the visit are forwarded. If the user is logged in to YouTube with the same device to visit our online offers, YouTube recognizes the user by calling up a single page that contains a YouTube video. This takes place regardless of whether the person concerned clicks on a YouTube video or not. This information can be collected by YouTube or Google and assigned to the profile of the respective user, provided the elements have not been integrated in “privacy mode”. We always use the “Privacy Mode” whenever possible.

  1. Use of the Facebook pixel for analysis purposes

The Westfalenhallen Unternehmensgruppe GmbH use so-called Facebook pixels within their online offers. These are the functional components of the comprehensive web analysis service of Facebook Inc. (represented in Europe by Facebook Ireland Limited, 4 Grand Canal Square, Dublin 2, Ireland. In the following: “Facebook”). With the help of Facebook pixels, it is possible for Facebook, among other things, to assign visitors to our online offers to a target group or several target groups for the display of advertisements. These target groups are determined from the visitors who have shown an interest in our online offers or who have certain characteristics (e.g. interests in certain topics or products). With the help of the Facebook pixel, we can also measure the effectiveness of the Facebook advertisements and use this knowledge for statistical and market research purposes.

How the Facebook pixel works

The Facebook pixels are integrated into our online offers on the respective end device by reloading executable program code based on JavaScript or by reloading an individual image file, provided that reloading of executable program code is not possible, for example if JavaScript is deactivated in the respective browser of the accessing end device has been. These different types of Facebook pixels enable your use of our online offers to be analyzed. As soon as one of our online offers is called up, the Facebook pixels establish a direct connection to the Facebook servers. The information obtained by the cookies about your usage behavior is usually transmitted to a Facebook server in the USA and stored there. The programmatic content of the Facebook pixel is transmitted directly to the device with which our online offers are accessed and is largely determined by Facebook. The information obtained using the Facebook pixel is also largely determined by Facebook. The scope of the data that Facebook collects with the help of the Facebook pixels can change at any time and is beyond our knowledge, unless Facebook informs it correctly. We therefore inform the users of our online offers according to our level of knowledge.

Analysis of the efficiency of advertisements

The Facebook pixel provides extensive analysis functions. The scope of the personal and user-specific data collected by means of the Facebook pixels can be adapted to different content requirements. For each online offer, it is possible to evaluate in detail how individual users behave. This applies to any online offers in which Facebook pixels have been integrated. Among other things, Facebook uses this information to optimize the control of advertisements in its own advertising network and to only display the relevant advertisements to relevant groups of recipients. For example, the user behavior after clicking on an advertisement in a Facebook online offer or from the Facebook advertising network can be evaluated. For example, Facebook can use the Facebook pixel to determine whether a contract has been concluded or whether a newsletter has been subscribed to. This information gives Facebook and us more precise information about the efficiency of advertising on Facebook. Individual advertisements and user behavior after a click can be linked to specific purchasing behavior or other target indicators – such as the use of other services offered. Extensive usage profiles can be created from this data.

Combining data from different sources and using data for other purposes

Facebook also brings together information from different sources. One of these sources is the information collected by means of the Facebook pixel about the surfing behavior of users within online offers in which the Facebook pixel is integrated. Further sources are evaluations of user behavior and interaction within Facebook, such as “likes”, product interests, interests of people called “friends” or information from conversations with them. If you are logged in with your Facebook account on the respective device or have been logged in in the past, the information collected can be linked to your Facebook user account so that your user behavior can be recorded seamlessly within other online offers even after leaving Facebook. Even if Facebook is not used, Facebook can still link the behavior-related information. We would like to point out that the use of such a tracking process enables users to be identified independently of the device, as data from different end devices can also be merged with the user profile as soon as a user has logged on to the same service on both devices at least once, or as soon as a sufficient probability value has been determined based on similar user behavior and matching geodata. The purpose and scope of the data collected, as well as the further processing and other use of the data, your existing rights in this regard and the setting options offered to protect privacy can be found in Facebook’s data protection information: https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/ .

Data transfer to Facebook

Facebook is based in the USA and therefore in a so-called “third country” in accordance with Art. 44 GDPR. Facebook is certified under the data protection agreement “EU-US Privacy Shield”, which guarantees compliance with a European level of data protection. The legal basis for the transmission and processing of your data is the existence of a consent in accordance with Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. a GDPR. The following data is transmitted to Facebook through the integration of the Facebook pixel within our online offers:

  • All data present in the HTTP headers: An HTTP header is a standard web protocol that is sent to the relevant server on the Internet with every browser request. HTTP headers can contain, among other things, IP addresses, information about the web browser, pages or documents accessed, referrers and the accessing system. For more information on data in HTTP headers, see: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_der_HTTP-Headerfelder
  • Pixel-specific data, such as the Facebook pixel ID and the content of Facebook pixel cookies.
  • Values for data events: Up to seventeen standard events can be defined for which data is collected. These are described here: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/facebook-pixel/reference . Among other things, the call of sub-pages within the online offer can be recorded, the value of a purchase made, how many and which products have been purchased, or the duration of paid subscriptions. This data can also be used by Facebook to predict your shopping and payment behavior and to make assumptions about your socio-economic status.
  • Further information on data collection by Facebook pixels can be found at https://de-de.facebook.com/about/privacy/ as well as under https://business.facebook.com/pixels/tos/ and in the Terms of Use for Facebook Business Tools at https://www.facebook.com/legal/terms/businesstools .

Deactivating Facebook data collection

If you do not want Facebook to collect data about you within our online offers, you must log out of Facebook before using our online offers and delete the cookies in your browser. You have to repeat this process on every device with which you access our online offers. You can revoke your consent to us at any time by clicking on this link: https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=ads
